Musical Practice

Damien is a York-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator with over a decade of experience across the arts. I've worked as a composer and producer in the UK and internationally, with extensive performance experience across a wide range of styles and events.

Bio

Damien began his musical journey in classical piano, achieving a DipABRSM in Piano Performance in 2017. Alongside his classical training, he has extensive performance experience in popular music styles and musical theatre, including pit band work and as a lounge pianist/guitarist for conferences, drinks receptions, award ceremonies, weddings, and care homes.

In ensemble settings, he performs across western genres on piano, guitar, bass, flute, and clarinet, and played piano, guitar, and bass with the pop/rock function band The Decades (2023–2025).

From 2017–2020, he was Director of Operations at Inkwell Productions and served as the resident Musical Producer, supporting theatre productions across England.

Alongside teaching, composing is his main practice. His piece for piano and oboe Days Gone By premiered in June 2025 at York St John University and has since been performed in Japan.

In 2024, he began teaching music theory to undergraduates at York St John University, and in 2025 joined Crescendo Music School in York as a piano and music theory teacher for students of all ages and abilities.

He completed a BA (Hons) in Music at York St John University in 2025 with First Class Honours and is currently studying for an MA in Music.
